Privacy policy

Summary

• We don't store your photos. Free previews run entirely on your device. For HD, a reduced copy is sent to our secure servers, processed and discarded straight away.
• If you create an account we keep your email, a hashed password, your credits and your purchase records.
• History of your HD downloads is kept only in your browser, never on our servers.
• We never sell your data and don't show ads.

Who we are

changebg.app is operated by Ayush N, India ("we", "us"). Contact: support@changebg.app.

Your photos

• Free preview: background removal runs in your browser on your device. The photo is not uploaded.
• HD: a reduced copy of your photo (at most 1536 pixels on the long side) is sent over an encrypted connection to our servers, the cutout is made, and the result is sent back. The photo and result are not stored and are not used to train any model.
• Photo backgrounds: backgrounds you upload stay in your browser.
• History: HD results paid with credits are saved in your browser's storage on this device so you can download them again. Clearing your browser data removes them. We can't see or restore them.

What we collect and why

• Account: email address, a securely hashed password (never the password itself), optional name, whether you confirmed your email, and your marketing email choice. Used to sign you in and run your account.
• Credits and purchases: your credit balance, which HD photos used credits and when (no images), refunds, and purchase records (product, amount, status, payment reference). Used to provide what you paid for, handle refunds, and for accounting and tax.
• Payments: checkout is handled by our payment partner, which acts as the seller of record and processes your card details, billing address and tax under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card number.
• Security: your IP address is used briefly to limit repeated sign-in attempts and abuse. Short-lived counters expire automatically within about a day.
• Usage analytics: we count page views and product events (for example "image opened", "download") with the page, referrer, browser type and approximate country. We use this only to improve the product, not for advertising.
• Server logs: our servers keep short-term technical logs (request time, path, errors) to keep the service running and secure.

Bot protection on sign-up and sign-in

To stop automated abuse, the sign-up, sign-in and password reset forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, which may collect device and browser signals to tell people from bots. Its use is governed by the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum. It isn't loaded in the photo editor.

Emails

• Service emails: email confirmation and password reset. These are needed to run your account.
• Tips and updates (optional): sent only if you ticked the box at sign-up and confirmed it from the email we sent you. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, or email us.

Cookies and browser storage

• cbg_session: keeps you signed in (up to 30 days). Strictly necessary.
• cbg_auto_hd: remembers your "Use HD automatically" setting.
• cbg_onetime: remembers a one-time HD purchase in progress, so it isn't lost if the page reloads.
• Browser database: your History of HD downloads (see above).

We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How long we keep data

• Account data: while your account exists. Ask us to delete it at any time.
• Purchase records: as long as the law requires for tax and accounting, even after an account is deleted.
• Photos: not kept at all.

Sharing

We share data only with service providers that help us run changebg (hosting, email delivery, analytics, bot protection and payments), only as needed for that purpose, and when the law requires it. We don't sell personal data.

International transfers

Our providers run servers in several countries, so your data may be processed outside your own country. We rely on their standard safeguards for such transfers.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent (for example to marketing emails) at any time. Email support@changebg.app from the address on your account and we'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

changebg isn't meant for children under 16. Accounts and purchases are for people aged 16 or over.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell account holders by email about significant changes.
