How to make a white background for Amazon product photos

Updated

Upload your product photo to a background remover that outputs pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255), download a JPG at full size, then pad it to a square where the product fills about 85% of the frame. changebg does the first part free in your browser, and its product photo resizer does the second.

Step by step

  1. Open the Amazon white background tool and upload your photo. The background is replaced with exact #FFFFFF white.
  2. Hold “compare” to check the edges. Detailed products (jewellery, fabric, cables) get crisper edges with HD.
  3. Download a full-size JPG.
  4. Open the product photo resizer, choose Amazon (2000 × 2000) and download. It trims the margin and centres the product at 85%.

Why “almost white” gets rejected

Amazon checks the background automatically. A background that looks white but is really #F8F8F8 or #FAFAFA can be flagged, which is common with photos shot on white paper or a light box. Replacing the background guarantees exact 255, 255, 255.

Amazon main image checklist

  • Pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255).
  • Product fills about 85% of the frame.
  • At least 1,000 px on the longest side for zoom; 2,000 px is better.
  • No text, logos, watermarks, borders or props that aren’t included.
  • JPEG preferred.

Frequently asked questions

Is #FFFFFF the same as RGB 255, 255, 255?

Yes. #FFFFFF is the hex code for pure white, RGB 255, 255, 255, which is what Amazon requires for main images.

Can I use a white background for secondary Amazon images?

Yes, but secondary images can also show the product in use or in a lifestyle scene. Only the main image must be on pure white.
